Service Dogs and Walt Disney World
Here at Schirmer - Marvelous Mouse Travels, we speak fluent Disney. Having been to Walt Disney World fourteen times, and planning my fifteenth (and sixteenth and seventeenth) trip, I thought I knew everything that there was to know about Walt Disney World (WDW). Turns out, I was wrong. Since my last trip to WDW, I have gotten a Service Dog (I named her Stitch after Lilo and Stitch). When I was looking up WDW Accessibility, I found out some awesome information that will make Stitch and I's next visit to WDW much easier than I had expected!
I knew going into my research that there were certain rides that were considered "Stitch Safe" such as "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh." But what I didn't know is that WDW has different options for Service Dog Handlers who want to ride rides that aren't exactly "Stitch Safe."
For Service Dog Handlers, such as myself, who want to experience as many of the attractions possible, WDW offers two main solutions. Before entering the "Not Stitch Safe" attractions, find a friendly cast member! They will gladly walk you through the options for your Service Dog, "including Rider Switch with a member of your party or a portable kennel."
